Recent research by charity Family Rights Group has found a worrying increase in the number of victims of domestic violence who are at risk of having their children taken away from them, reports ITV News.

The charity receives many calls from parents looking for help because social workers are making child protection inquires about their children as a result of domestic abuse. An analysis of these calls found that the number has increased by 1100% between 2007/8 and 2012/13, and is still rising.

According to Family Rights Group, some mothers feel that they are being attacked not only by their abuser, but also by a system that seems to blame them for being unable to protect their children.

The problem is being made worse, says the charity, by drastic funding cuts to domestic abuse support services and refuges.
